True to Yourself & Your Body
Alison's story
In 2007 I had been practicing yoga for around six years and really loved it. I had never been any good at physical sports but the way I felt after practicing yoga was amazing. I loved the whole ethos, the physical movements, breathwork and meditation. I was considering becoming a teacher when I was involved in a serious motorbike accident. I sustained a burst spinal fracture in my lumbar spine and broken ribs which resulted in part of my spine being fixed.
I reflected on my Yoga practice and although being in a substantial amount of pain I began to meditate and focus inward. My recovery was long but showed me that I had learned to listen to my body and work with what was available to me.
Following physiotherapy I went back to yoga and a number of years later became a teacher. I realised that I could help others to improve their health and wellbeing by encouraging them to work with their own body.
In my classes I encourage everyone to listen to their own body and do what is right for them. I strongly believe that everyone can do something to support their own physical, mental, health and wellbeing.
